Impact Investment

According to the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN): "Impact investments are investments made into companies, organizations, and funds with the intention to generate a measurable, beneficial social and environmental impact alongside a financial return."

The SPN recognizes the importance of impact investing in Hamilton, as it has a major role in positive economic development outcomes by investing in emerging economic clusters, rehabilitating brownfields and making aging infrastructure economically vibrant.

After hosting a workshop on impact investments as part of the 2013 HiveX conference, working to establish more socially and environmentally responsible businesses was identified as a key issue.

The SPN in collaboration with other organizations is working towards a goal of establishing 30 B Corps in the City by 2015.  By voluntarily meeting higher standards of transparency, accountability, and performance, Certified B Corps are distinguishing themselves in a cluttered marketplace by offering a positive vision of a better way to do business.

This will be an important part of developing a culture of sustainability in the City of Hamilton.

This will be accomplished through one on one and group education and consulting initiatives. Interested businesses and community members can learn more by contacting Hamilton SPN
